The CORSET DIET: Yes or No? Is Waist Training a Good Idea?

#Corset Diet, yes or no?

Also called “waist training” has hit mainstream and the Hollywood crowd over the last few years. For centuries women were FORCED to “widdle their middle” into these tight, restrictive and unbearable contraptions. Now, celebs like the Kardashians and Jessica Alba swear by these “devices”. Jessica Alba stated she wore hers day and night for 3 months after giving birth and credits wearing this contraption for her weight loss.

Do you lose weight with a corset? Well, science says NO WAY. I have worn one of these, and actually have it in my closet. It is great to help you nip and tuck away what you are trying to hide, but can become quite disappointing when you squeeze yourself into a sausage and find your “excess” spills over the top… not a pretty look ladies!

Next, these things are painful! It hurts to have a contraption wrapped around you so tightly you can barely sit down. The more expensive ones have metal boning in them that keeps everything pretty upright, which isn’t all bad for sitting at a desk all day because it definitely improves your posture. I found I had difficulty breathing in it. The tighter you cinch the corset the more you constrict your diaphragm, so don’t even think about working out in it… that can be dangerous because it restricts you from taking a full breath.

Oh, one theory on weight loss is because everything is slammed together in your gut you eat less and aren’t as hungry. Well, yes and no. You for sure can’t eat as much food because there is no room for it in there, but this can also cause acid refluxing because too much food may find it’s way back up into your esophagus and that simply is not pleasant. Be prepared to run to the bathroom more often, because when everything is squished together, it pushes your colon along a little more.

Finally, and this is the worst of all the things I experienced, it compresses your rib cage which can be dangerous. A slight turn in the wrong direction while contorted and compressed can result in a torn intercostal ligament (between ribs) which is excruciating and will result in weeks of missed gym days and many sleepless nights. If it gets REALLY bad, you can actually crack or break a rib, which sets you back even further. Why do I tell you this? Because I suffered torn intercostal 3 times and 2 cracked ribs in the several months I wore this contraption. Bottom line, though it looks like the next best thing since buttered bread, please think twice. Abs are not made in a waist trainer, they are made at the dinner table and at the end of your fork. Hard work, consistent exercise, plenty of sleep and rest and consistency and dedication is why creates that beautiful waist ladies!

How can YOU go from SICK to STUNNING? In Blog #8 of my Fitness Journey, and road to NPC Physique Competition, I continue to update you through my health and wellness video series. By attempting to inspire and motivate YOU to wellness, I have overcome autoimmune illness and toxic mold poisoning that had left me debilitated much of 2014. I want you to see where you can take your body when you instill faith in yourself and your body’s natural ability to “heal itself”… without the use of pharmaceutical drugs or treatments.

We are now only 5 DAYS away from NPC competition in L.A. I take some time to explain what I was not prepared for coming in to this completion and training for the competition. Fatigue re-surfaced as I am prone to adrenal fatigue and also hormonal issues from menopause. I emphasize the importance of adequate 7-9 hours of sleep. Further dietary restriction was another struggle that created more stress. Finally, assure your coach offers more 1:1 training and is there with you to assure you can get your gains and be the best you can be, and help prevent injury during the process.

Take an intimate look into the emotional struggle to drive yourself to this elite level of physical fitness. If considering this type of NPC competition, learn about the other activities you will need to engage in as part of this process and journey.

FITNESS BLOG #6: Journey to HEALTH – From SICK to STUNNING!

How can YOU go from SICK to STUNNING?

In FITNESS BLOG #6, and the road to my first NPC Physique Competition, I continue to update you through my health and wellness video series.

It is now Week #12 of NLF routine, and Week #6 of Physique-specific training and nutrition regimen.  We are now only 5 WEEKS away from NPC in LA!  After an injury last week, I bounced back and am happy to report increased energy, 3% body fat loss, increase in strength and even gains in weight lifting.  I once again review some of the techniques I used to “heal” over the last week. In addition, you will learn improvements in thyroid and my thoughts on this progress.  Finally, the final test… wardrobe test!!!  Do the dresses fit???  I officially BRAVED the closet test that has been haunting me since becoming ill last year.  What was the result?

Final thought, THROW THE SCALE AWAY!  How do your clothes fit?  How do you look in the mirror? Are others commenting you on the observed weight loss?  The scale is just a number.  A few years ago, I thought I was at my ideal weight of 115 pounds because I was wearing the same size as I did in high school.  Unfortunately, to obtain this weight and maintain it I had to sacrifice carbs and many foods I loved.  This led to severe cravings and constant binges to quell the cravings.  It was a terrible cycle and I always felt horrible because of the blood sugar fluctuations.  I now am eating 6 times a day!!! I had to ask several times if that was right and my trainer assured me she knew what she was doing!  I reintroduced carbs and immediately started to feel better, especially with thinking skills.  I am now at 130 pounds, and CAN WEAR THE EXACT SAME SIZE as when I was 115 pounds!  Come back for the next progress report to see how I am doing!!!

How can YOU go from SICK to STUNNING?

In FITNESS BLOG #4, I continue to lead you through my video health and wellness “diary” from healing autoimmune disease and Toxic Mold Syndrome to training for a physique competition… a challenging practice in physical fitness.  Today is Day #4 of weight training and HIIT (high intensity interval training) cardio, I had a challenging day and want to share this with you.  Anything worth having requires dedication, commitment and lots of hard work!

The process is by no means physically easy!  This is true with any path to a successful outcome… the road is never straight and it is filled with curves, twists and turns, and many mountains to climb!  But remember, always be KIND to your body, listen to the messages, let it recover and recoup and adequately hydrate and supplement when building and breaking down muscle.  I will also give you some tips I used to help rejuvenate my body using far-infrared sauna (click on link in the HYB Products under SUNLIGHTEN SAUNA for more information and additional discounts from HYB), warm bath with epsom salts, lavender and baking soda, drinking alkaline water and lots of REST!

Take care of your body, because your body will pay you back in dividends!!!
